Iowa Beer, German Tradition
We set out with the goal of
brewing Authentic German
beer right here in Iowa. Now
the Germans are well known
for their brewing expertise, but
what does it mean to brew
Authentic German beer? To
answer this question we are
going to walk you through
how to make beer and why
ours is unique.
Beer is defined by the process of its creation. All brewers have
access to roughly the same ingredients; it is how we use them
that sets us apart. Therefore any understanding of beer requires a
basic understanding of the process. Ready to learn?

Simply put we are preparing sugar water and adding yeast. The
yeast then converts the sugar to alcohol thru the miracle of
fermentation. What defines beer is that the source of the sugar is
grains (as opposed to wine which uses juice). Beer is far more
complicated to make because grains are full of starch (large
chains of sugars) which the yeast cannot use. Thus the major
function of the brew day is to turn those starches into sugars.
